Necessary Documents for Employment
Upon your arrival in Greece, obtaining the necessary documents is crucial for legal employment. Apart from your visa, every foreign worker must acquire the following documents:
ΑΦΜ (Tax Identification Number - TIN):This number is essential for tax purposes and must be obtained before starting work.
ΑΜΚΑ (Social Security Number - SSN):This number is required to access social security benefits, healthcare, and other essential services.
Κλειδάριθμος (Tax Registration Number - TRN) or Access Code:Depending on its use, this number is necessary for accessing the Greek tax system and other online services.
Processing and Waiting Period
Flex Idea, in collaboration with your hotel employer, will process all these documents for you. It is important to note that the processing time for these documents typically takes 2 to 4 weeks. During this period, the Greek government prohibits any form of employment.
Bank Account Setup
In addition to the above, it will take approximately the same amount of time (2-4 weeks) to open a bank account. In all EU countries, including Greece, it is mandatory for workers to be paid through a bank account rather than in cash. Flex Idea will assist you in setting up your account so that you are ready to receive your salary as soon as you start working.
Skill Requirements and Adaptation
All seasonal workers must possess relevant skills and experience for their assigned positions. If a worker demonstrates a serious lack of experience or fails to adapt to the workplace during the first season, Greek legislation allows for the deportation of the worker. This action results in the immediate cancellation of the work permit, with a 25-day notice to leave the country and no possibility of altering the legal status.
Contract Renewal and Work Permit
For the 5+5 year work permit duration (up to 10 years), an annual renewal is required. This process is straightforward, provided the worker has a new contract from either their current or a new employer. The renewal does not involve a complex procedure but requires proof of continued employment.
Position and Accommodation Regulations
During the first season, workers do not have the right to request a change in their assigned position or accommodation. All rights and conditions concerning accommodation and well-being are overseen by Flex Idea, in collaboration with the SETE (Labor Rights Protection Organization). This partnership ensures that all living conditions meet acceptable standards and that workers' rights are protected.
High Season Work Expectations
During the high season, from July 20th to August 20th, employers may require additional working hours. These extra hours are compensated according to Greek financial regulations, ensuring that workers receive fair payment for their efforts during this busy period.
Employer and Hotel Changes
Workers cannot change their hotel or employer during the first season, as prohibited by Greek regulations. This restriction ensures stability and adherence to initial employment contracts. However, after the first season is completed and once they have obtained their residence permit, workers are free to seek new employment opportunities within Greece, allowing them flexibility for the remaining 4+5 years.
